Welcome!

Summer 2010 launched our Math & Science Summer Camp designed especially for elementary students. Our purpose is to explore math and science concepts in fun and creative ways. Curriculum is based on the National Teaching Standards and taught by certified teachers. Active investigations, engineering projects, learning games, and real life connections engage campers and promote authentic learning. We hope to see you next summer! What a cool way to beat the heat!

2014 Weekly Themes & Dates

Chemical Creations ~ Mixing Art & Science to investigate properties of matter and chemical changes. Junior scientists will measure, mix and mash mysterious mixtures to create artistic masterpieces. Dress for mess!

Animal Planet ~ From deserts to oceans, forests to swamps, junior zoologists will meet strange yet amazing animals from around the world. Explore this circle of life by investigating tracks, scat, and habitats.

Flight Academy  “Up, Up, and Away!” ~ Investigate the science of aerodynamics: birds, kites, balloons, planes, and rockets! Campers will build and launch various flying machines by applying Newton’s Laws of motion.

Wired! ~ Building Electric Circuits, Motors, and Mini-Bots. See how things work by taking apart common household items. Power up using solar energy too.

Crazy Contraptions ~ Engineers will design various structures from bridges to roller coasters and work together to build a Rube Goldberg machine that uses multiple steps to solve a   problem. This crazy obstacle course teaches the FUNdamental forces that affect motion.

Bugs and Creepy Crawlies! ~ Get a close-up view of the hidden world of insects. Learn about their anatomy, life cycles, and habitats. How are they helpful and harmful? Campers will take several walking field trips to observe and collect specimens.

Fit Bit ~ Get the scoop on how our body systems work and learn the importance of healthy habits. Build models of body systems and see how joints, muscles & bones work together. This session will also include beginner dissecting labs such as a pig’s heart.

Space Explorers ~ “To Infinity and Beyond!” Explore our solar system in the StarLab, a portable planetarium. The Sun, planets, moons, and stars are all waiting to be discovered. Experiment with light and color. Defy gravity with rockets, catapults, and other forms of travel.

*Many sessions will include guest speakers from our community.
